Overtime Festival
Island Park, Mt. Pleasant, MI (04/15/00)

Overtime Festival was a day of pure Rock dedicated to the purpose of raising money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.  Proletariat friend Beth Hahn's mother was a victim of this disease so we decided that it would be a good cause to try to raise money in discovering a cure for it.  The day was nothing short of successful.  We raised $1,042.40 in donations for the M.S. Society all thanks to you people!  Thank you all so much for your generous donations and for your help.  The day went off perfectly and all of the bands and all of you helped 100% in making it go so smoothly.  Thanks especially for helping in the clean up and tear down.  And extra special thanks to Jay Joe Jay for doing sound, Sid for his help with the sound and to all of the bands for playing for free and making the day pound with great local rock 'n' roll.  Look for more Overtime Festivals in the future.

Show Reviews

July 28, 2000: CHOKESLAM, TEDDY BOYS, and seven other bands - Suicide prevention benefit show at St. Anne's in Ortonville, MI.

Quite possibly the best show I've ever been to. The day started off rather slow with bands from the Southeastern MI area trying their hardest to sound like NOFX. However, things started to heat up at about 9:00 when the TEDDY BOYS took the stage. Former NEGATIVES guitarist, teen heartthrob and the TEDS' frontman, Abe Hovey, put on an electrifying performance backed up by fellow OVRRers Steve and Brad. They threw rockabilly and a slight punk edge onto oldies that kept the kids dancin' and the girls swooning over Abe in a wife beater. Once their set was done, anticipation grew for one of the best bands never to come out of Michigan. The girls lined up in front and the boys got ready to throw it down for CHOKESLAM. This was Byron 'Dr. Cool' Travis' last show as ax-man for the boys, and potentially the last show for the band, and he made sure it was one to remember. They exploded out of the gates with 'Dr. Hysteria' and all of the thoughts of the lame "no dancing" rules at the show were thown out the window. They ripped through all of the songs on their LP 'No Holds Barred' and a few more, pausing only to remove shirts and say a few heartfelt thanks to the people that had helped them out with their band. The definate high point of the night was a possible last tribute to pumpin' fists, screamin' chicks and mosh pits, when a few of us were invited on stage for a sweaty, emotional version of CHOKESLAM'S 'Theme Song'. If you never got to see CHOKESLAM perform, perhaps you're too late. You missed out on a great band and one hell of a good time. Let's hope this wasn't your last chance. -Dan
